As part of Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery’s major refurbishment the Museum undertook extensive research into how best to communicte the stories and information about the objects in the Museum’s collection. From this 55degrees were commisioned to deliver the Arctic Life – object cinema display.

The display took as it starting point the artifacts and animals of the Arctic region; to convey the complexity and reality of the stories inherent in the artifacts, six themes were selected in order to progress the visitor through the experience: winter, food, summer, movement, festival and aurora.

The presentation uses 4 projections to immerse the visitor in the visual experience creating a driving narrative which delivers the main story, a supporting narrative, which delivers additional supportive non narrative visuals and a stretched narrative (image split over two screens) which also delivers theme supportive visuals. In order for each section of the driving narrative to be located in the most appropriate area of the display the drving narrative slides around the space, locating itself in the appropriate space.

The result is a visually intriguing immersive display that intergrates the artifacts into the audio visual experience.
