The Harvest

The Harvest (2006) is a 9-minute 35mm film produced by 55degrees for the BBC and Scottish Screen for the Tartan Shorts strand. Seamlessly combining CG-based effects and live action it portrays a mysterious near-future mission to the stars.

Bovey, Wilson and Stoichita comprise the crew of the Akhenaten, a tiny deep space research vehicle vessel experimenting with the growth of wheat under alien sunlight. When Wilson, Stoichita and the crops are unexpectedly exposed to an alien energy, their deeply repressed underlying urges come to the fore.

The Harvest was premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival and received its first terrestrial broadcast on BBC1 in 2006. The Harvest currently being screened at numerous international festivals. The film stars Kate Dickie (Red Road, Tinsel Town), Garry Cooper (Van Helsing, Beautiful Thing) and Paul Clarkson (Casualty), is directed by 55degrees' content director Joseph Briffa who co-wrote it with Paul Welsh, produced by Suzanne Reid.
