We first deployed User Generated Content (UGC) Strategies in 2000 for NESTA. This saw us develop a "Suitcase Acquisition System". NESTA awardees were sent a manila envelope containing a "how to" video, a manual, some tapestock, a set of keys and a return envelope. One week later a suitcase arrived. The keys opened the suitcase providing them with video equipment to tell their story in their own words. They were provided with a clear and focused methodology, ensuring we not only got usable material, but that it was consistent across participants. They only had the suitcase for two days, ensuring focus of effort by the user. 55degrees provided telephone support during this time. 4 Suitcases were deployed simultaneously around the UK. The resulting short films were used to launch NESTA at BAFTA Piccadilly. They were later made available on their website, informed the imagery of the annual report and were transcribed for extensive use by the Marketing & PR Department. However perhaps most importantly it provided the first common experience for each of the NESTA fellows - here was an organization with the courage to give them voice.
